The faire makes use of a large cast of students, hobbyist, professionals, and volunteers each year to make Staffordshire, England come alive. It is time for you to join our cast with open call auditions. We are looking for guild members, musicians, and a variety of street characters to fill our ranks.

The Virginia Renaissance Faire provides classes in improvisational theater, dialect, and other skills.

But I’ve never done this before!

Auditioning is easy.

All you need to do is come in with about 90 seconds of memorized (or well-read) dialogue (poem, play soliloquy, or a joke).

You never know what you can do until you try!

Then, if you are chosen for cast, you will be asked to return to be offered a position with the faire.

Questions or need more information?

E-mail us at comeplay@varf.org Not sure if you’re ready for a cast position? The Virginia Renaissance Faire is also seeking many volunteers, both before and during the show. We need help with construction, grounds crew, front gate, information booth staff and many other areas. For more information, e-mail comeplay@varf.org

Brass and Drums!
What's a grand entrance without a brass fanfare?

Brass players, individuals or groups, will announce the opening of the faire at the front gate, perform at all 3 main stage shows, announce the joust and coursing hounds and lead off the noon parade.

We need fanfares and flourishes fit for a Queen. (A 16th C English Queen, in particular - 2001 Space Odyssey music is inappropriate.)

Scott McDonald heads up the Royal Brass. You can reach him at comeplay@varf.org. Please put BRASS in the subject line.

Brass and Drums!
Are you a joust enthusiast who is looking to learn more about the art of jousting, knightly games and, of course, chivalry?

Do you love our beautiful steeds and want to help care for them? We are currently recruiting enthusiastic and reliable individuals to squire for the joust. Horse experience is appreciated, but not required.

If you are enthusiastic about the joust, show up dependably and on time, and have a good head on your shoulders, we can teach you the rest. Squires' duties include caring for the horses, setting up the field and cleaning up after the joust, running the equipment for the knightly games, and armor care. Squires help groom and tack up the warhorses for shows as well as armor the knights before a joust. You will receive responsibilities based on your level of experience as well as reliability. We try to make squiring fun and enjoyable, and are looking to create a real team of dedicated squires. Without good squires, knights cannot put on a show and our squires are our best friends. Squires will learn hands-on about horsemanship, jousting and period armor.

Our jousters are Mike and Krissie England of Blue Run Farm Jousting. If you are interested in learning more about squiring, please contact them at info@bluerunjousting.com Please put Squire in the subject line.

You may also wish to take a look at the website http://www.bluerunjousting.com Our jousters will arrange to be at some auditions to interview prospective squires, so please be sure to let us know if you plan to apply and we will arrange a time for you.
